Basic Concepts - Hoses

Basic Concepts

Choosing the right hose type is crucial for proper performance and longer product life. Three basic characteristics should be considered:

Place of application

  • Type 1: Intended for residential buildings
  • Type 2: Intended for commercial and industrial buildings or Fire Departments
  • Type 3: Intended for naval and industrial areas or Fire Department
  • Type 4: Intended for the industrial area, where greater abrasion resistance is desirable
  • Type 5: Intended for the industrial area, where high resistance to abrasion and hot surfaces is desirable.

Working pressure

The Standard establishes relatively high working pressures, which meet most needs with a good safety margin.

Abrasion resistance

All hoses experience wear and tear when dragged. Type 1 hoses are recommended for smooth floors. Type 2 hoses are recommended for commercial and industrial floors. Types 3 and 4 hoses are recommended for floors where greater abrasion resistance is desired. Type 5 hoses are recommended for highly abrasive floors. In addition to the above, it's also important to consider whether the hose will come into contact with oils or chemicals. In this case, choose a model with an external coating resistant to these chemicals.

Standard NBR 11861 - October 1998

ABNT standard NBR 11861 defines a fire hose as: "Firefighting equipment, consisting essentially of a flexible duct fitted with unions." Kidde hoses are factory-fitted with appropriate unions, following the standard length of 15 m to 30 m.

ABNT compliance mark

The ABNT conformity mark guarantees that the manufacturer complies with the standard for the product. Out of respect for the consumer, Kidde Brasil is the only company to offer this benefit on its types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 fire hoses.
